''AI'' stands for ''artificial intelligence.'' In other words, a really smart robot. When you use an AI image generator like Midjourney, the AI isn't able to pull something from nothing like a human artist could. Thus, the AI steals the works of human artists, 3D sculptors and photographers and can pull pieces from hundreds or even thousands of works in order to create the image it generates. If it has been uploaded to the internet, no piece of artwork is safe from being stolen. This also applies to written work, with AI modules such as ChatGPT.
It is also notoriously bad for the environment. When you generate something through an AI program, whether written or visual, It takes the power of large servers in order to generate what you want. These servers create large amounts of heat, which require freshwater -- one of our most precious and dwindling resources -- in order to be cooled. Google alone, with their new AI service ''Gemini,'' uses 2.1 million litres of water per day! You would have to take approximately 7000 baths a day in order to use that much water!
Therefore, I, T.J. Riopelle, am proud to say that when you purchase a book or piece of artwork from me, that no AI has been used in its creation. Not a single word, character name, idea or pen stroke has contributed to the grand art theft and global water pollution of AI. With every purchase, rest easy knowing that you have helped a small, rural-Canadian artist and writer.
